Michael Gray, Outfitter has guided for deer and elk hunting in Colorado for 20+ years. A Colorado native he started Elk and deer hunting at age fourteen with his father. His easy going manner helps his hunters to feel at home and he does everything he can to help his hunters have the best experience possible. The private land that is guided on is owned by his Uncle and Cousins and is their mountain ranch where they keep their cattle in the late fall when they are brought off of the forest.
This uncompahgre area has been an excellent Elk, deer and turkey hunting area since the late 18 hundreds and many famous people, including presidents have hunted there.
Elk populations have steadily risen since their introduction in the 1940's. Deer populations have gone up and down since the Division of Wildlife has managed the area. We are seeing a increase in the deer population on the uncompahgre especially on the private land.
